Yes indeed. So true. See the news from Greece for confirmation.

@TranscendHumanit,
The real problem with socialism is that is based on a false premise about human nature, motivation and behavior. It is doomed to failure.

Yes. But socialists, and contemporary liberals, are wishful thinkers. They believe what they wish were true; not what there is evidence for. Consider the belief that the health care bill, newly passed, will save money, when all the evidence is that it will be far more expensive than what we have at present (although there is reason to believe that Obama and company knew that, but used the notion that the program will save money to sell it).

Confirmation of what? They aren't a socialist nation and their problems are a result of the credit crunch which is inextricably linked to unregulated free marketeering between banks - being irresponsible with other people's money (or debts in this case).

Milk Snatcher herself plumped for policies dictated by economic monetarism in the belief that "it would make Britain great again" - a strategy that saw her administration responsible for more job losses than the current situation in the UK, and (arguably) greater economic turmoil too (assuming that some people don't see job losses as economic turmoil, which they may, though I wouldn't concur).

And to echo Deckard - if people are going to climb into bed with Enoch Powell and Benito Mussolini just because they thumb their noses at socialism, I think they'd be better off considering the company they're keeping before pronouncing on the naivity of socialists (such naivity depending on the circumstances anyhow).

@Dave Allen,
So many one liners, as if they prove something. There are numerous derogatory quotes on capitalism. Its the equivalent of kids throwing dog ship at each other.

@xris,
There is little chance of any in depth conversation about either socialism or capitalism on this forum because it always devolves into a bunch capitalism vs. socialism one liners. There is, for example, very little chance that a thread will ever explore some of the finer points of socialism or the finer points of capitalism. It's just not going to happen on this forum.

Its an American problem not a anything to do with this forum. I notice this Mccarthy attitude is still alive and well. Socialism is not a dirty word in Europe, like it appears to be in the majority of America.

Yes the national conversation about economics has been severely stifled in the USA. It's very frustrating.

Yes. The understanding of Socialism and the attractiveness of Socialism, are inversely proportional.

The same can be said for capitalism or rather "capitalism". I've still got a fair amount to learn about both but I know more about it than can be said with a few bumper stickers.
