"Life, Ending One Minute at a Time."
He wasn't shocked at all. He should be. It's all ending. Right before his eyes. For some reason he couldn't muster a care in the world for what was about to happen. Everyone else was frantic. Some people were on the streets just praying to whatever the hell they think is up there. Others were acting like idiots, thinking they could overcome what was happening. Trying to get others to join them. It was stupid. Then the others were just sad. They cried. Walked around like zombies. But he didn't care. If anything, he just wanted to ****. Other than that, he'd just stay there alone until it happened. He might smoke, too. No point in quitting now. It wasn't that he wanted to die. It was a shame to see it all end. But it was going to happen, and there was nothing he or anyone else could do about it. So he just wanted to wait for it. And let it all happen. He lay back onto his pallet there on the sidewalk, closed his eyes. For a moment, he was back with her. He was driving and she was laughing in the seat next to him. She leaned over and kissed his cheek, then flirtatiously nibbled his ear. She giggled at the distraction she was causing him.

His thoughts were disturbed by the crash of the garbage cans near him. "Can you lend me a?a hand, son?" An older man stood before him. The first thing he noticed about the man was his rotting teeth. The second thing he noticed was that he was very drunk. "I didn't wanna go out like this?" He shut his eyes forcefully and rolled over to his side, turning his back to the drunken man. "S-s-stum..umm?sometimes, I think I used to think about this a lot. Didn't want it to be alone." He opened his eyes and let out an annoyed exhale. "That's how I want it. Alone. Go on now. There's plenty of people in the street. Go pray with them!" The drunk stumbled on, scolded.

He had an itch on his back that he couldn't reach. It sent a tickle through his spine. He shivered. He turned back on his back and lifted his head to see the drunk stagger away from him. He suddenly regretted scorning him. It's not that he was bitter. He was just indifferent. Did it even mean anything that he felt a pang of emotion for that drunk bastard? It shouldn't. There's no point. His fate is the same as everyone else's. It will all be over soon. And it's not relief, it's not sorrow, it's just what's going to happen. So he laid back down and waited.

"After the Fireworks Ended."
His kiss was soft and slightly wet. It didn't last long enough, but it was all that it took to get her giddy. He pulled away quickly, as if he had just stolen a candy bar and was trying to slip away unnoticed. The recent change in their friendship had been a secret from the rest of their friends, so the kiss was a bit of a surprise. The fireworks had just ended when she stood up to look for her drink. That's when he grabbed her by the hips and turned her around with a need-you-now urgency and pressed his lips against hers. She was so taken aback by the kiss that she didn't even return it. It was a moment that was both lovely and critical. For her, it felt as if he didn't care if anyone saw that kiss. It was a proclamation of his feelings for her?although it was probably just a sneaky surprise. The fact that no one was supposed to see that kiss made it even more exciting, even more dramatic. And it was. It was only a split second, but that kiss will never be forgotten. Her hand trailed off of his chest as he walked away nonchalantly, pretending as if nothing had just occurred. She let out a soft giggle, then brushed her hair away from her face. She wouldn't see him again for another four weeks. But that kiss would be on her mind for quite a while.

@Dosed,
Is the latter story one with a world ready to end too?

@Dosed,
the latter story is more about a beginning rather than an end. it's an interesting perspective though. not my intention at all, but that's a pretty cool thought you have there, friend.

@Dosed,
Well I thought that only because of the first story, really.
The first being told about a man without any cares (or little cares, since he remembers his girlfriend or wife or whatever at the end of the first paragraph), and the second being told about a man with cares-both handling the end of the world differently.

But that's not the case. Thanks for the clarification. Smile

@Dosed,
Ah, I see now. Yeah, that's why I titled the thread "two completely different thoughts." Smile the second story is actually a continuation of a stream of consciousness free write I posted in an earlier thread.

@Dosed,
"Casino's End"

Freshly shed leather, slithered away from the casino. If it were closer to the center of the city, the two would not have met. Back home, to the desert. The casino was fun. Vultures parade through the skies carrying guts of fresh corpses as banners almost saying "Merry End"...only if one looked at them a certain way. The snake didn't seem to notice. He went his way through sand and bone, settling down as the sun set down. And as the sun set down it came. Without warning it came. The snake didn't seem to notice...

Freshly bought leather, slithering towards the casino. If it were closer to the center of the city, the two would not have met. Back home, to the casino. The desert was fun. Strippers parade through clubs and bars carrying drinks. Barely covered bodies, scraps of rags held the words "Merry End"...but no one was paying attention to the rags. The man didn't seem to notice. He went to his regular table and ordered his regular drink-he downed alcohol as the sun set down. And as the sun set down it came. Without warning it came. The man didn't seem to notice...

My take on the whole two completely different thing-enjoy!

Ah, end of the world theme in both scenarios, maybe they are happening at the same time... who knows.
