What makes Able2Know so fast?
I am talking about the forum display speed here.
It cannot be only the caching and ev1.net connection, can it?
I need to know, dammit, why you are so good, hehe.
I moved this to the web development forum for other webmasters to see.
Able2Know is actually slow right now as we are only on one server, in the past I distributed the load to three servers and it was faster.
I don't use the caching system provided in the phpbb contrib directory, I've written my own that is much faster. I do not have the time to document, distribute and support my code for that (as it's complex and has some problems) but it's based on an existing phpbb hack called "xtreme styles" or something, it's available at phpbb.com
But that is just where it begins, I have done a lot of modifications to vanilla phpbb to improve speed, and have many more to do.
First there are the basics, move css to an external file, I also do it with most of the redundant JavaScript so that it's cached on the user end. I use IFRAME ads wherever possible because they load faster, I removed icons and images that are not needed, I made avatars invidible to guests to cut down on the bandwidth. etc etc etc
But the real speed comes from server administration, using Zend and such to achieve optimal server load.

Nah, crave, that's all crap. . . I'm with the seal. . . :-)
Yep - three for the doped-up hamsters!
Ya'all should have seen it when it was on alga vista
