NASA was conidering sending canaries into space to study them under zero gravity. The project was scrapped when someone realised that in spite of having sufficient water supplies, they could die of dehydration within a few hours. Why?
Those little bird water bottles wouldn't work in zero gravity.
Ah, I know this one. It's not much of a riddle though, more of a scientific fact.

I didn't think that alone would really kill them in a couple of hours but it was my best guess!
Same reason they're sent into mines and such...?
Birds need gravity to swallow.
Humans can swallow upside down, birds can't.
