Just do not capitalize the domain name and use a trailing slash and no 404s are shown.

Lol, just saw i was just in time to click the link Smile

Add a / after forums, then it shows up with no errors.

Btw, it's just a prediction of how google spiders the site, the results don't guarantee that the pages shown are going to be indexed.

I think it's useful to find out if there are any sid's in the url.
After checking my site it didn't find any but on a friends site it did show the url's with sid's so i think mine's pretty spiderfriendly then.

Google did visit his site over 390 times in 2 months now while mine only has 39 visits in 2 months (7 visits today).
I must add to this that i installed the mod just a couple of days ago so i think it's upstream from now on Very Happy

Not sure though but i read something in an other topic that Google doesn't like the viewforum and viewtopic.php files and penalizes for those?

It also said something about changing the names of those files so that Google doesn't penalize for those anymore.
Is this correct?

I'm willing to change the names of those files and edit the other files accordingly so everything works like it always did.

The easiest way to do this is to open all your forum files with a tool like editpad lite and so a search and replace, then rename the two files.

If you want to do this try it on a test board first (I can give instructions).

I thought about renaming them forumview.php and topicview.php, what do you think?
Will be a lot of editing though but i don't mind :wink:

Btw, got a testserver running every now and then to check the site before i upload everything.

Yes, I can confirm this but I do not know what criteria they use to identify them.

I strongly suspect they use the file name. But other possibilities are certain page content characteristics (I strongly doubt this because of the great variance in templates and language packs).

I'd recommend changing them to something very different. removing both the words "forum" and "topic" from the file name.

Then you'll have to replace all instances of viewforum.$phpEx and viewtopic.$phpEx to the new names (leaving the php extention variable).

I suggest using keywords for your site, the most important text that exists is the domain and then url text as far as SEO is concerned.

Keywords?
Like metatags?
I have those in the 2 overall_header.tpl's but don't know if those are sufficient.

I submitted the site at google with the .tk domain but the only thing it then indexes is the domain name, i also submitted with the actual address of the site and it likes that much better: http://IPaddress/SITENAME
Got to get a real domain name some time Smile
Googlebot came by 5 times today but still doesn't go to the viewforum and viewtopic pages (didn't do the changes yet).

Almost forgot, i read on the phpBB forum that Google also doesn't like some scripts like the msn messenger mod.
I've got that one installed but i'm undoing it because it doesn't seem to work with msn 6.1.

Also, what's the function of these 2 in the overall header?

When viewing the source i get this:

It isn't visible for humans but i think the bots do see it and maybe penalize because those are actually invisible links then.

First of all don't worry about that stuff. It does not hurt (dunno about the mod you are talking about, you can always robot.txt it).

When I said keywords I mean the keywords about what your site is about.

If you have a site about apples your keywords are about apples.

As to getting a real domain name that is probably the most important thing you can do. Worrying about search engine optimization with a free subdomain is like worrying about how you are going to conquer the world with a spoon.

I did the above, no errors.
I also noticed that the nav_link bit also shows sid's sometimes.

The msn mod adds a script in the overall_header.tpl:

Problem with this Mod
hi, I installed the relevant changes required by the Mod's install file, but I get this error when trying to view the index.php page:

You used an older version that had a typo.

Replace:

$forum_data[$j]['username']

With

$forum_data[$j]['username'];

ok will do - the Mod works perfectly with 2.0.4, I see no SIDs when logged in, which is good. So this should allow Google and other Search Engines to spider my WHOLE forum?

I have a small question... my forum is hosted through classicgaming.com, and my forum URL is:

will this still be spidered, it is of course not a normal URL with the includion of the 'tilde' in it... I was just wondering, seeing as though you are obviously the master of SEO. Would I just simply have to submit my forum's page URLs through my SE Submission tools as I once did with my main website?
