I feel a little strange posting this. Creative writing isn't something I do, generally. I had to write this for my senior class in high school. With my 10 year reunion coming up I started rooting through my old high school memorabilia and found it. When I read it after all this time I had one of those "was that really me?" moments. But hell, it is the one and only piece of creative writing I have to show, so I might as well show it to someone.

Childhood Abstract:

We were
little angels
drifting on the currents of innocence
floating amidst dreams
exploring wanderous castles of air
tantalized by the concept of seduction
yet immune to its pain
existing in the realm where even pain
drifts lightly in the breeze
and is carried away
by scintillating gusts of curiosity.
How blissful it would be
forever to float timelessly
in the paradise of ignorance.
But as in any dream
flight is only for a while
and the end is always too soon
when Time is hidden by an illusion of security.
The freedom of childhood ends
when the gravity of self-realization
pulls the soul down
out of the clouds of self-preservation
onto the rocks of self-evalution,
perturbed is the heart
pierced is the soul
faults are assigned
every imperfection exposed
stripped of hope
the soul lies naked on the altar of standardization.
The horrible needle of perception
jabs deep inside,
seeking out
searching
finding
the last refuges of innocence
those most treasured remnants of freedom,
dreams
ruthlessly burst
barbarically consumed
pieces of soul imbedded in fantasies
are ripped away too quickly to be salvaged
immortal flesh is devoured
a feast to the god of Mirth.
The soul bleeds into a puddle of sin
lick it up kid
take what you can get,
childhood is over

@alcaz0r,
Personally I find it interesting, and I like this piece of creative writing. It really makes me feel nostalgic in a good way.

@alcaz0r,
i think it's great. amazing that you had so much insight in high school. i guess if we dont catch onto something like this then, as we go on through life we cant retrieve it to express it. how fortunate that you saved it...

i hope you will try and write more, maybe do an update of looking back or anticipating the reunion etc...? signposts and markers in life and all...this is a big one for you.
