Many of us know the following quote, by the Rev. Martin Niemöller:
"When they came for the communists,
I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist.
When they came for the Jews,
I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for the Catholics.
I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me...
and there was no one left to speak up."
and recent events have spawned a new version, without attribution:
"When they came for the 4th amendment,
I kept silent because I am not a drug user.
When they came for the 5th amendment,
I kept silent because I am innocent.
When they came for the 2nd amendment,
I kept silent because I do not own a gun.
When they took the 1st amendment,
I could no longer speak out."
well said and might i salute you with, may your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.
