Not Bulgaria either.

Let me post another pic - same thing, but from the other side!

interesting, c.i.! I never knew that the word "zealot" came from an actual religious group.

Yes, it's beautiful ... it's very impressive indeed. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere ... and quite old.

Oh, and not in Slovenia, either - sorry ;-).

A voice in my head just said Carpathia. I have no idea where Capathia is or if it would have a fortress (or?) like this.

Now that's interesting. I don't think there is such a thing as "Carpathia" (though there is a region called "Transcarpathia" in the Ukraine); but the mountain range encircling much of Central Europe is called the Carpathians, yes.

And though my atlases seem to contradict each other on which mountainous areas still belong to the Carpathians and which not, I'll grant ya a "yes" on this ;-)

The little brain balloon must have been from some imagery from something I once read about the Carpathian mountains.

nimh, The map is so light, it's difficult to see the locations of the Carpathians. Is it Slovakia?

Off-topic: that site I just linked above, by the way, is from the UN Environment Programme & turns out to have an amazing array of maps - these ones about the Balkans, for example!

You have to click it, c.i. - you'll get a much larger and clearer picture then!

But, yes, anyway:

it is in Slovakia ;-)
