C'mon c.i., even Aussies nap sometimes - your post came through at 3.07am!

Is it somewhere in Crete? Not one of the places I've been to - but it looks like some sort of resort, with a fortress in the background. White buildings = south? Obviously on the Mediterranean. Bloody pedal boats! I got seasick in one once Embarrassed

margo, Yes, it's Crete. It's a place called Lindos. On our tour to Lindos, we also stopped at a pottery factory where we observed the craftspeople making dishes and pots - and some other things. Crete also has a place called Knossos, known as the "Cradle of Western Civilization" or the home of Europe's earliest civilzation, the Minoan culture. It is surmised that the earthquake at Santorini was the last great destructive event of Crete. The archaeological site of Knossos was founded by an English Anthropologist, I think his name was Dr Evans in 1900.

c.i., I've been to the ruins of Knossos - they're absolutely fascinating - as was the whole of Crete.

I was trying to find a good picture of the Venetian fort in the harbour at Iraklion to post as my pic. Couldn't find a decent one, so picked somehting else.

Spot on! c.i.

It's the cathedral in Seville (good work, Clary!). I didn't know that Columbus was supposedly buried there - but, thanks to Google, I see it's been in the news somewhere very recently. If it's found not to be Columbus in that tomb, does that make c.i. wrong?

Seville is one of those magic places in the world!

Osso - Chania is another - but some of my silly travel stories come from there - see above - being seasick in a pedalo!

Seville is so beautiful, and very very Spanish!

I believe that the photo was taken from the top of the Giralda. Also that the small monument in the center of the plaza is "El Triunfo": a monument for not having many deaths in an earthquake.

Yes - it's an interesting view of a great city!

I'd love to be there at Easter for the processions during Holy Week, Semana Santa. When I was last there it was May, and we came across some youngsters preparing for a procession like the Easter ones, but on a much smaller scale, with small floats! I think they were organised by a local church. I saw one boy, about 5, with his own 1-person float. They sure start training for these processions at an early age. No wonder they have such huge participation in the real ones.

BTW, we were told on our tour in Seville that Columbus traveled more after he died. We also visited a monument in his honor in the park. Wink

Clary identified the city, but I asked for the city and the building - and you asked the question identifying the building. I had to hit Google to find out that Columbus tomb was said to be there!

And, if Clary has any sense, she'll be asleep right now!
