Not having visited most of the south-west countries of Africa, I'm stumped. My impressions come from my visits to Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. I was stationed in Morocco in the late fifties, and have visited Egypt 2 times which all seems to confuse rather than enlighten.

The countries you cited in southern Africa are all, to some extent, of English language. The one we are looking for is not.
