Cool! Damn!

This kind of thing normally only ever happens to Anastasia (the magic stuff, I mean).

This is from the Rough Guide on the castle:

Quote:
the hyperbole is forgiveable as Bran really looks like a vampire count's residence. Perched on a rocky massif, it rises in tiers of towers and ramparts from amongst the woods, against a glorious mountain background. The scariest experience is climbing up the steep, dark stairway just inside, though since an American tourist dropped dead of a heart attack, the staff have stopped hiding in chests (not coffins, alas), which they used to swing open mencingly.

Did you spend a long time in Romania, Clary? Travel around in the region, too?

Is it Spain/Portugal?

Well done Nimh! I was about a week in Romania, driving about; your guidebook is surprising, I found it whitewashed with geraniums in pots and no frightening atmosphere compared with some castles. Oh well, I suppose guidebooks are meant to get you there - I'm actually writing one at the moment! To Hong Kong.

Well, before you give up on the Rough Guides (cause they're brilliant, much better than Lonely Planet) - mine is from 1988!!

So I'm sure much has changed ...
I probably wouldve liked the 1988 castle better, I guess!

Running out of European countries on the Meditteranean, eh? <winks>

Yes, Greece is correct.

Which city?
(That's enough .. I dont know the name of the church anymore, either, though I could point it out on a map ... I lit a candle for Anastasia there ... two and a half years ago? {Damn..})

This bit about Brasov / Dracula's castle is probably not true anymore either, fifteen years after the Ceasescu-era 1988 publication date ... <grins>:

Quote:
Across the road, beyond a tiny park and river, the Castelul Bran cabana offers double rooms for about 70 lei and a long and varied menu. However the kitchen only produces sausages in the mornings, and chicken - pui a full half-carcase - thereafter; so if you want a fancier meal or room, go to the costlier hotel on the Brasov side of town. But they do serve large cheap brandies.
