Well, I want to be a well respected man
(I really liked that feeling, noticed it only once [last year], when I walked with one of Her Majesty's Ministers through the halls of the Foreign Office  )

Okay, let's try: definately Asia.

Or?

Good start... were you being escorted out of the Foreign Office for being an undesirable alien, or just having a chat with a friend!?

We [Mrs. Walter and Mrs. and Mr. Steve (as41oo)] had a talk with him and got a private tour through the old Indian Office as well - but actually we had some (minor) difficulties to get out: the automatic security system couldn't identify our ID-cards Laughing

Back to business and getting respect here:

it reminds me of Afghanistan (not that I've ever been there!), so it might br in one of the surrounding/close up countries?

not Afghanistan. But it might remind you of it Smile

Does Steve work in the India Office? Is it still the India Office, as it was in colonial times??

No, he doesn't.

And it still looks looks like in the old times .... besides in the offices, I think. [But - don't tell this anyone! - most of the civil servants, I saw, must have worked there in the time of the Treaty of Locarno as well!]

-------------

Think, it could be in one of the former Russian republics, Turkmenistan etc

I'm not sure, but could it be that this photo

shows 'your' building just from another perspective?

Indeed it could! So give me name and address of the building (for any other visitors to our thread) and I'll let you go!

(Just learned that the Ark, the city fortress, is the oldest structure in Bukhara. And other famous buildings are the Ismāʿīl Sāmānī Mausoleum (9th-10th centuries); the Kalān minaret (1127) and mosque; the Ulūgh Beg (1417), Kukeldash (16th century), Abd al-ʿAziz Khān (1652), and Mir-e ʿArab (1536) madrasahs)

Keep 'em coming; I love these pictures of places I haven't visited. Just goes to show how much of this world has so many interesting places - yet to be visited. Wink
