This has a look of British Colonialism to it. Is it Africa?

Cicerone: Not Morocco.

Kev: Mmmmmmm I would have to say NOT Africa in the normal sense, but this place is closer to Africa than to any other continent....BIG CLUE!

Margo: I posted the description before during a lull in the game, but the lull ended and we went back to the last photo. This photo hasn't been posted before, and is only posted now with cjhsa's help.

So....what place is 'sort of' near Africa and would be not French but yet would be flying a French flag? I want you to also explain why this particular building is significant, which shouldn't be very difficult to guess if you can determine where it is.

when Equus said it's nearer to Africa than anywhere else, I.E. it's a bit nearer than ½ way towards Africa, than anywhere else, plus the true British colonial look, I thought of St. Helena.Governers house perhaps, or courtroom, but I cant find any pics of either.

However, despite the paintwork being different, and being taken from a different viewpoint, this has a look of the building in Equus pic, dont you think? I think this is where Napolean was exiled to.

I think you have it Kev! And introduced me to a new location on top of it. I never knew there was a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic, as St. Helena is. Smile

Well, only francophones or people interested in (European) history will know more about that

Yes, this is St. Helena, and this house is where Napoleon Bonaparte spent his (second) exile and final days. It's called "Longwood House".

I have no guesses about the current picture, but just wanted to chime in and say that anyone who's interested in St. Helena might enjoy a novel called The Monsters of St. Helena, by Brooks Hansen. It's a fictional account of Napoleon's exile on St. Helena, and the friendship that supposedly develops between him and a teenage girl who lives on the island. The book is full of fascinating historical and geographical details about St. Helena.
