Well, I've been away, staying right beside this park, with this view, and swimming in this surf :

Portmeirion Village in Gwynedd, Wales, UK! Smile

Quote:
The village of Portmeirion was designed by the eccentric architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1926 onwards. Although you could be mistaken for thinking that you were in Italy, the village in fact occupies a peninsula in north Wales.

The buildings employ a number of architectural tricks to make them appear grand despite their simple construction.

Oh! On that second link, I see the exact same picture within that site as the one Clary provided. But I swear I didn't look at the URL of Clary's pic!

Well done, Caprice. I am actually, at this moment, staying with a granddaughter of Clough Williams-Ellis, which is why I chose it.

Oooo! You travel in high circles Clary! Wink

Okay, now I have to find an image....be back in a bit!

Oh, c.i....when I knew it was UK, I guessed Wales because I've been to England and Scotland and had never seen anything like that before...never having been to Wales I thought "maybe they have uncharacteristic architecture there" and guessed it. From there I tried a number of search terms under Google images. I wasn't having any luck and went back to look at the image. It seemed like so many buildings...like a village! So I put in 'Wales' and 'village' and after a few pages I came across an image that looked identical to the one Clary posted. The page it linked to was titled "Gwynedd & Snowdonia" but the image it was linked from wasn't on the page. So I had to do a little more looking and finally I came across information about Portmeirion. And that was that! Smile
