It is the Tsukiji Honganji Temple in Tokyo.

I find out it's made of concrete! Here I was searching out "stone" "marble" and other types. I wouldn't have guessed it to be concrete due to its ornate structure. Smile

I think had it not had asian-looking people in the photo and the sign out front (some sort of asian characters -- too fuzzy to tell, but the vertical orientation was a giveaway), I would have been looking at something from India and nearby. Smile

caprice, The people and the sign were good hints if you looked for them. Otherwise, it would be easy to think it would be located in India - which would have been my first guess. I'm still surprised at your ability to find the answer. ** My wife and I are going to Japan on a Buddhist pilgrimage on March 25 for 12 days, but will spend all of our time in the Kinki Region - Kyoto, Osaka, Himegi, Shiga, Wakayama, and Nara. This will be our second visit to Japan.

c.i.: I lucked out really! I was trying to discern what the flower-like image was inset into the top of the temple. Then when I knew it was Japan, I thought of "rising sun". So I put into Google image search 'japan' along with 'rising sun'. I saw one image that seemed to have similar curves to the temple and the same stone use, although it was not the same building.

Click here to see my Google search

It's the first image, top left.

Anyhow, I noticed it said "Japan Photos" in the URL. So I thought it was worth having a look to see if the image I was seeking was there. And low and behold, there it was! (See here.)

So I was lucky that I found it on the photo page of this student. Smile

Oh! Is this a hint that you have room in your suitcase for me? Wink

It sounds like it will be a jam-packed trip! Do you or your wife speak Japanese at all? Take lots of pictures! (I'm sure you will. Wink

Not Spain or Portugal, but *sigh* California. I debated on whether or not I should answer since it really wasn't a question. *heh*

Guess away c.i.! Smile Besides, you have the internet at your disposable. I predict one, maybe two more guesses before you get it.

Barracks on the Palace Grounds

The barracks built in 1870-71 were designed to accommodate the Royal Household Guards. It was later used by the National Guard of the Republic, later still by the Hawaii National Guard, and then as a government office building. Currently it contains the Iolani Palace Ticket Office and Palace Shop. The building was originally located on the site of the present state capitol building. In 1965 it was moved "stone by numbered stone" to its current location next to Iolani Palace.

Haven't forgotten about this one. Just can't find the answer. You know, California is a big state - the size of Iraq, we are told. Wink

No to Hollywood and to Huntington Beach.

I believe it is between L.A. and San Diego. Let me check a map to be sure.
