Hard Time Heaven (short poem)

These lonely souls of earth sift through the muck,
Drifting between doors, daring to press Luck.
But they'll never find Heaven, and that they know.
Yet still they wait for angels that will never show.
They cry themselves to sleep, and continue on alone.
In search of a heaven, they will never own.

*Inspired by the masterpiece written by Skip James, "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues." And while this poem could never live up to the beauty of this song, I hope that it does not in any way tarnish it.*

@Caezius,
A reply

Foreign lands and forgotten faces, insidious deceit,
lie and wait for your riches and wisdom to keep.
Yet the God you wish were known in all walks of truth
stares blankly at your feeble minded reproofs.
Kingdom come, kingdom now, kingdom in hand
the message has long been in the pen's feeble brand.
But who am I to say what was, is, and is to come;
Once you've seen the light...

Smile

@jack phil,
A reply to a reply

Once I've seen the Light...
And when will that be?
I've been swallowed,
Engulfed,
And enamored by Darkness,
Only to be spat out because of the taint that is my soul,
I've wandered the world in search of a home,
Or at the very least a place to call my own,
I sit and wait,
Homeless and alone.

Have you seen the Light?
Basked in its radiance?
(The sweet sunshine)
You are lucky,
And I am not,
(Life?)
You will prosper,
And I will I rot.
(I envy you)

And just to clarify, as there seems to be a misunderstanding. My poem was not speaking of some religious heaven, although I admit I do not believe in such a place. My poem was speaking about a heaven on earth, a Utopian ideal for people who are too impatient to die for a perfect ideal. My poem was completely a-religious in this context, being neither pro or anti-religion. In any case I hope you enjoyed it and will enjoy this as I have enjoyed yours.

@Caezius,
I do enjoy your reply (to a reply); Here is another (reply):

Although I am not a religious man I cannot help but see
that everything man dreams for is reality.
You cannot count endlessly, but numbers are endless.
All is immanent, transcendence a call for distress.
And the darkness did not comprehend the light,
but you say you have scathed the universe in your plight
and never found what you were looking for... resolution.

Chicken or egg, I can offer no solution.
This is the revolution, not dissolution.
The bearer of a property, and the bearer of a name,
there is no number called infinity,
There is no god that is the same.
Some say that a man was the divinity,
And a lion will return with a righteous hand.
If a lion could speak, we could not understand.

Utopian civilization, messianic divination, deathly salvation;
all these words, yet no sense of comprehension
from their ill maligned company and keepers of vanity.
The shortest way from one point to the next,
and the best way to avoid God's wrath,
and the strongest way to not be vexed
is a strait and narrow path.

You are sure I am religious, by the words from my mouth;
There is no shrine of worship hidden under my couch.
Every day is a new day, and all things in it are new;
Buddha once said: Why change the world and not you?

Some seek high office, others guilty pleasures,
you say you seek the truth in earnest
but what is your measure?
And how are you furnished?
sometime sun

@jack phil,
I just don't know what makes you think heaven can ever be owned?
So I would say you are correct, if you think you can own heaven you aren't getting the point.
