Gah! That constantly repeating and wavering ad for free screen savers is literally giving me nausea. Feels like seasickness from a really bad cruise.
Just upgraded Norton Internet security.
No banner ads...
Not everyone sees the same ads. I'm closing this request because it has no useful information for me to work with. I have not seen any such ads and no way was given for me to even begin looking through the several ad networks and thousands of campaigns.
Seal,
I wouldn't be too happy about going ad-less. Many sites are starting to lock out users who do this as they feel there is an implied contract of free content in exchange for advertisements.
If the blockers succeed all they will do is make sites move to subscriptions.
Craven, there isn't any information given in the ad other then it saying "Click here for Free Screen Savers."
It has 5 or 6 thumbnail sized photos of seascape sunsets that bounce and waiver individually in the ad column.
There isn't any other information in the ad. That's all I can tell you about it other then the fact it was currently running at the moment I made the post. If you keep a log of ad network air time, you might find it that way. If not, don't sweat it.
I've resolved it myself by just avoiding A2K when that series of ads runs.
I have solved this problem by closing my eyes whenever I visit this site.
BFN,
Let me explain how ads work. Each visitor can have a different ad displayed to them. There are several million hits to this site a week. Even if there were logs for each ad displayed (not a single advertising network in existence provides this type of logging) it would be daunting to search through.
What you saw at the time was different from what others saw. I've never seen the ads so a visual description is, as I said, of no help to me.
The visual description is of no help because.. well you can't search for such a description. If you want something done you need to tell me who the advertiser is. Basically, tell me where the ad goes and I can look into it, otherwise there is simply nothing I can do about it.
Of course, avoiding the site is a good idea if the ad is making you nauseated. But if you want me to try to block it I will need to know who the advertiser is.
And there is other information you could give. Is it a banner or a skyscraper? What pages does it run on? Is it a flash ad or an image? When you hover over the image what ad network's url shows? If it is an image what url shows in the properties?
Any of the above will help, but the visual description doesn't.
I've searched and searched. I can't find anything like it. I'll need some more info. :-(
It bounces in an ad column, therefore you'd probably call it a skyscraper since columns and skyscrapers are vertical.
I remember seeing it on individual thread pages as well as the new posts listings.
I don't know how to tell if an ad is a flash ad or just a regular animation. Let me know what to look for and I'll try to define it for you. It runs with a series of ads that have a lot of motion.
Next time I see the ad, I'll click on it and give you the url it links to.
Hmm, I'll probably need the URL. But you did help narrow it down.
If you hover your mouse over the ad you should see a url in the status bar, if you don't it's flash. Also right clicking brings up a flash menu instead of an image menu.
