today and tomorrow hindus are celebrating janmashtami, the birth of krishna, the greatest avatar of love. this poem started almost ten years ago and somehow the end just popped out yesterday.
janmashtami
The sun was hanging in the sky this morning
framed in swirls of coral fringed with blue-gray.
It felt like a prayer-Ram! Ram! adorning
the world, remembering Krishna's birthday.
Love touched my face with a soft breeze, untying
my hair, curls spilling, freefalling away.
Petunias kissed my feet, white pebbles lying
like pearled rice, prasad for Krishna's birthday.
Cattails by the riverbed dream of being
flutes. Young girls romp like kittens at play
in fields of clover. Cotton clouds are fleeing,
unfurled in the wind on Krishna's birthday.
@salima,
I love to watch Little Krishna - an animatated televison serial programme whenever it catches my attention. He is getting to be iconic.
Gurus like OSHO and others have compared Krishna with Jesus. I wonder why. Whats the connection?
Good hymn!

i think it must be the 'love' connection. the message of jesus was basically love of our fellow man. krishna of course loved his fellow men and women both-
thanks for the comment!
