@Alan McDougall,
Alan,

Could you at least leave a link, if not a comment?

I'm running behind, but I did have your post on my catch-up list. And now it's gone. This is a general area of interest for me. However, it's potentially so broad, I hesitate to comment until I read your original idea.

Hi Smile

I will repost it here for you to read.

As a person who has lived all his life in the Beautiful country of South Africa I will try to address questions like Apartheid. Some uninformed people try to equate Apartheid with NAZI racialism. This is like comparing unimaginable pure hate racialism, with birds of a feather like philosophy of the Nationalist Afrikaner regime.

During the time of Jan Smuts rule in SA there was indeed racialism very similar to what you had in southern states of the USA such as Mississippi. Only when the Nationalist Party came into power and legislated separation of the people did this law start to take away the human dignity of millions of dark skinned South African, and a similarity between NAZI philosophies in an appalling way. But Apartheid was not pure evil like Hitler's murder of millions of people.

While at lease 12 million innocent old and young woman, children, and men where murdered by the NAZI regimen, The STRUGGLE FOR FREDOM IN SA cost the lives maybe hundreds of SA black and white people.

The real difference between NAZI / Apartheid in huge , there were no mass murder of innocent folk in SA that is why it sometimes angers me when a comparison is made between albeit both evil a little silly in my mind

Thus:-

We the people of South Africa have been blessed beyond belief by that great soul Madiba that we all love so much. South Africa has had its problems since 1994, such as crime etc, but have people of all persuasions really stopped and thought if this great saint had come out spiting hate and revenge a holocaust of such unimaginable proportions could have happened with millions being slaughtered. Indeed South Africa is a wonderful miracle it is due to the forgiving spirit this one wonderful kind, loving remarkable man who is to me r equal or even greater than the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Marten Luther King Jnr. May he live to be a hundred years of age or more, so that we can continue to be blessed with his smiling face and presence for as long as providence will allow him to live.

@Alan McDougall,
Do you think that separation, or a socially fair and just version of apartheid, is sometimes a better answer than trying to assimilate peoples who do not care to integrate with each other?

I'm thinking of the semi-autonomous Cossack communities in Russia -- they prefer separation, but in return for this privilege (semi-autonomous rule, not serving in the military or police, still retaining Russian citizenship), they volunteer for "independent contracts" which no one else really wants: for example, border patrol and policing "hot" zones, especially near Chechnya. They are a warrior class.

BTW: I think S. Africa has an incredibly beautiful national hymn? anthem? Nkosi Sikelele Afrika? (am I even close?)

@Alan McDougall,
I think there's a world of difference between coming to a mutually agreed compromise between those who wish to follow an alternative lifestyle within a society and the gestalt, and that society forcing people to become a servant class with limited rights against their will. Many of the people denied the opportunity to become a first class citizen in apartheid SA did want to integrate, after all.

I find the premise of the thread a bit silly, to be honest. Yes we can all think of societies that are more oppressive than others - does that mean we can only comment on history's most oppressive society?

Perhaps we should just forget about the Nazis, after all Hitler was a mite more civilised than Vlad Tepes.

@Alan McDougall,
The legacy of apartheid still haunts South Africa. It should never have been made so large or had its tribal lands turned into a white mans concept of community. Young black men have not benefited from the hope of freedom , too many years of subjugation has destroyed their ability to escape poverty. I think the outcome of apartheid can be considered just as damaging as the Nazis regime, it will take years if not centuries to undo the white mans rape of Africa.

South Africa is not yet free.

The single most terrible problem S.A. is the horrible crime wave that continues to climb unabated and out of control and I do not think there is one family that has been unaffected by this evil certainly not mine. Precious human life has become very cheap in South Africa and the annual death rate nearly equals that of the Iraq war. Why is this plague increasing? I believe it is because of a number of reasons. The prime reason is the government's continual refusal to acknowledge that the crime wave in S.A. is a national disaster needing emergency methods to deal with it now not in the future. The death penalty must be reinstated Interpretation so-called liberal constitution, often results in the perpetrator getting off light sentences for horrendous depraved monstrous crimes that seem to be unique to S.A,. The rape of very young children and babies and innocent woman, the elderly etc, Murder is rampant throughout S.A and the killings are too often for the most ridiculously small rewards,, such as a cell phone or 10 rand etc, etc,. Unemployment and resulting poverty and grime are also major problems. Education must become a national priority. Overcrowding Of prisons turns petty criminals into monsters. The easy availability and access to cheap street unlawful guns to the criminals and abnormal love of money, by them gives them power they should not have.

"In addition, money must be urgently allocated where it is most needed, not to sports stadiuma, Gua trains huge unnecessary arms deals etc, as an example. I feel that given the national disaster crime has become, it is also a national shame and crime to continue paying the ridiculously low salaries to the police officers and woman that might offer up their lives for us, for this puny reward. We must, must give our police a living salary now, sooner than later" when it might indeed be too late for us all. In this beautiful country. The hand of a gun and the loss of moral absolutes that comes with no longer believing in a righteous God and eternal consequence for active evil. (Eternal punishment) is a so very sad to me

@Alan McDougall,
Alan, what are you trying to say by "While at lease 12 million innocent old and young woman, children, and men where murdered by the NAZI regimen, The STRUGGLE FOR FREDOM IN SA cost the lives maybe hundreds of SA black and white people."? Are you hearing yourself? Do you think that physical death of a few hundred people is worse than the pervasive adverse effects of seperate development that have lingered and disintegrated the black family structure for decades past and shall continually rob a black man of a conducive family structure suitable to a modern economic system for decades more into the future?

Even if millions died in Germany and only a handful died of Apartheid related conflicts in South Africa it all comes from the same evil source: Racial division and superiority complexes. They are altogether evil and, frankly, deserving of the same judgment!
