Laughing I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the Mayweather vs Pacquiao saga, particularly the demand of Mayweather for Olympic style drugs testing for this fight.

@josh0335,
Im not that into boxing -- it seems like a dying sport. I heard very little about the Mayweather/Pacquiao ordeal and Im not sure if it'll even happen. I enjoy MMA alot more...

@josh0335,
It looks like a public demostration of pre frontal lobotomy practiced at arms length...

The last man I punched got his back broke, I lost my membership in the Ironworkers union, and I could have spent some time in jail for it...Lucky I didn't break his stupid skull...He just wasn't worth spit....

Mayweather. Very good, very good strategist, but not a great. I liked watching Roy Jones.

@memester,
Love to watch boxing. I kind of lost my respect for it as a sport though since MMA has become so much more popular. More challenging, uh-lot less injuries, and the fighters fight more. How many times does Mayweather fight a year. How many times does Randy Coture.

Mayweather is no great rolemodel to kids but his old man don't want him fightin' a guy that dopes cause A: mayweather trains natural and doesn't use any drugs, B: Mayweather's got something he knows the Olympics can't test for and we all know he could afford it or C: they are scared.

I'd go for a mixture of A and C

Its the sweet science. I don't care if the test them. Good. I guy should win a fight like that cause he's got the heart to train harder, not cause he's chemically assisted. I really can't think of anything two little dudes like that could take that would really help them.

I've heard a lot about boxing being a dying sport. I think it has a lot to do with the ridiculous number of sanctioning bodies which produces 10 or so 'champions' in each weight division! It's ridiculous.

With a punch like that you could have done great things in the square circle!

He is indeed. I reckon he's a blown up Lightwieght. He managed to successfuly avoid all the top Welters since his step up, namely Cotto, Mosley, Margarito (although now disgraced) Clottey and Williams. He's managed his career very well, but clearly has no real interest in becoming a great.

I also loved watching Jones. Mosley and Morales were great to watch too.

I'm going for none of the above with a smidgen of C! I think Mayweather could outbox Pacquiao and comfortably outpoint him. Marquez outboxed Pacquiao over their two fights despiting losing the second time, so Mayweather should feel confident he could do the same. But saying that, there is a distinct threat posed by Pacquiao that none of Mayweathers previous opponents have posed: power out of both hands and is very very quick. It's a risky fight and one thing we know for sure about Mayweather is he doesn't do risky fights.

What interested me about this episode is that the demand came from the Mayweather camp. But this is not the type of thing that should be up for negotiation when arranging a fight. Fighters usually negotiate money, venue, size of ring and gloves and even things like judges and referees. But drugs testing should be solely left to the boxing commission. It cannot be a stipulation for a particular fight. If Mayweather wants Olympic style testing, he should submit this suggestion to the commission who should then make it a uniform rule for everyone if they believe it to be necessary.

Some people hold the position that if Pacqiuao has nothing to hide, he should agree to the testing. But I don't agree with this line of argument. He's passed every drugs test he's ever taken and should be under no more suspicion than any other fighter. He shouldn't have to concede to Mayweather's demands. I'm glad Pacquiao has filed a lawsuit against the Mayweathers for defamation.

@josh0335,
Great Point!

The boxing commission should decide the testing. There's just got to be more to this then we know. It's a really odd request.
