This is an extract of a much longer poem I'm writing. It has some terminology which will be familiar to people living in London and the UK.
Prevail over the Derailed
I once heard, amongst other things, that street dogs stop barking when they see a lion,
I wonder where I can find a king of the jungle here in the jungle of the Queen
Her majesties London is paved with gold credit and silver syringes and the
air has the scent of carbon, the footprint of Goliath the capitalist
Who capitalises on the strength of the weak to weaken the strong
Youts frustrated cos they can't cause trouble on bendy buses on the route 29
Mandem still getting stopped and searched and being caught with a high.
Even higher still is the Alchemy of the Heart, but who's heard of Al-Ghazali anyway?
The wheels on the bus go round and round like Big Bother and Strictly Come Wasting
Ask the drunk who's just thrown up on the train platform heading towards Heathrow
I have a dream that by any means necessary we will prevail over the
derailed, delusional, demagogues of this destitute day
But whilst the fathers prostrate, the sons bow to hair gel and
tight jeans cruisin' to Tupac and 'Fiddy' instead of Napoleon and Loon
And their mothers pay for the fuel of their Need for Speed cars
Natural selection is naturally the selection of the disbeliever
who but believes in disbelief. 'Halleluva' is replaced by 'Where is the evidence?'
Does a falling tree make a sound when the tree-cutter wears ear plugs?
Do the pupils dilate when the eyes are closed? Is empirical the end-all?
Tell Dawkins the physical can't reach the metaphysical, stupid.
There's no time like the present to change, but not the change in your pocket
but the change of the present to the future, different to that which has past.
You feel me? If you don't then feel the closeness of your Lord, for He is closer
than your jugular vein. It's time to empty our refrigerators and pack the mosques
and know that time and space, or relatively time-space is in good hands which is relatively
important. Forget everything else but what Rumi said about forgetting, and you
and I, shall have no fear.
@josh0335,
hi josh-
maybe natural selection is actually selecting the believers, but it is just taking a really long time? also, maybe they are anonymous...you could easily recognize them in the days of the Companions...but today maybe they are simply recognizing each other and nodding a salaam, knowing that day will come...(patience, perseverance and constancy)
@josh0335,
Fascinating reading. Enchanting, powerful words. Perhaps some flavour of Eliot, or an echo of Pound? Nah Catch, stop acting like a conceited critic. Just tell the guy this was great poetry...imho.
@josh0335,
Don't have a lot of time but I like what I've seen so far, thanks for posting.

Especially the last line.
@josh0335,
I could feel every line, this was very impacting as this dilemma is a global wave sweeping throughout industrialized and soon to be industrialized society. There are many great things to find in this vast ocean of modernity, but jellyfish looks pretty from a distance.
