Hrm. Well, the only thing that comes to mind is The Time Machine, or . . . Dr. Strangelove (was that set in England?)

Yes, "The Time Machine." In the quotation, the time traveller is in the year 802,000 AD referring to a collection of books which have disintegrated almost to dust.

"Dr. Strangelove" was, to say the least, set in the U.S. Over to you.

To be honest, it's been so long since I'd seen Dr. Strangelove that I barely recall what it's about. Grasping at straws, and all that.

Vanishing Point was a car chase movie, set in the 70's, if I remember.

Cool hippie dude races across America and eludes everyone.
