Sorry if this is a repeat but it is one of my favourites:
"The good life is inspired by love and guided by knowledge."
......Bertrand Russell
Hi, Pieman. Been a while since we talked. Welcome mat is still out, however.
Yes, the quote is beautiful. Emerson once said:
I hate quotations; tell me what you know. Ironic that he's probably one of the most quoted men in American literature.
From The Good Stuff
We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.
-- Carlos Castaneda
The world is as a looking-glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it and it in turn will look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly, kind companion.
-- William Makepeace Thackeray
When you endeavor to do what's right against all odds, even if you don't at first succeed, there's nobility and even majesty in such setbacks.
-- Herb Cohen
Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
-- Veronica A. Shoffstall
Looking back you realize, That a very special person passed briefly through your life; And it was you. It is not too late to find that person again.
-- Robert Brault
The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.
-- Carl Jung
If you are able to state a problem, it can be solved.
-- Edwin H. Land, American inventor (born 1909, died on this date in 1991).
There are many fine things which you mean to do someday, under what you think will be more favorable circumstances. But the only time that is yours is the present.
-- Grenville Kleiser, American author (1868-1953).
Be who you are and say what you feel 'cause people who mind don't matter, and people who matter don't mind.
-- Theodor Seuss Geisel, American children's author (1904-1991).
We rejected our true Authority decades ago. And now, we adults don't feel comfortable in our 'self-made' authority as gender-neutral fathers and mothers.....We need American mothers and fathers to be faithful to their anointing, to once again take hold of our civilization and lead as men and women. We need that new Civil Rights Movement, re-creating the loving environment that blessed this country not so long ago -- a child-friendly environment that comes from a gender-friendly culture. Our secular (Darwinist) government -- which thinks we are freaks of nature -- can't help us with this vision, because it can't believe we are created beings, and therefore, it can't believe we have any spiritual authority, any gender authority. But we do! And you know we do.
-- Bob Just
Jesus evidently felt deeply the emptiness and futility of much...religious talk. He was interested only in those emotions and professions which could get themselves translated into character and action. Words have always been the bane of religion as well as its vehicle. Religious emotion has enormous motive force, but it is the easiest thing in the world for it to sizzle away in high professions and wordy prayers. In that case, it is a substitute and counterfeit, and a damage to the Reign of God among men.
-- Walter Rauschenbusch
The most important thing in any prayer is not what we say to God, but what God says to us. We are apt to pray and then hurry away without giving God a chance to answer.
-- North Carolina Christian Advocate
paulaj ...... yes, that's a good one. Hello and welcome aboard.
