Massive bruise on Jupiter probably caused by asteroid
By comparing a scar on Jupiter with that left by the 1994 Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impact, astronomers believe that 1,600ft wide asteroid slammed into the planet, with the force of a few thousand nuclear bombs.

A mystery object that slammed into Jupiter last year leaving a massive bruise was probably an asteroid, astronomers believe.

The collision was first spotted by Australian amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley as we reported in July last year.

Well... look at this picture of Jupiter. Either he's gay or he's a Don Johnson/Miami Vice wannabe.

Actually, Saturn was Jupiter's dad, so there might be something Freudian going on out there.

The Romans had a saying that always provoked a smile no matter how old the joke got : "Victory loves Prudence".

For those who dont get it, Victory and Prudence were two female Roman Gods.

Imagine if they found a spot on uranus. Ain't it enough already to have a ring around uranus without spots as well?

I have been enjoying a program on local TV here about the giant planets

Well, I wouldn't blame Saturn for smaking Jupiter around, letting himself go like that.

I mean, when Jupiter sat around the solar system, he sat AROUND the solar system.

@chai2,
ok, I had to close out that link, or I would have be captured for the next few hours.

Tidbit....The rings of Saturn are only as thick as a 2 story building.

Cool Astronomy

Jupiter got smacked. Again.
Australian amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley has done it again: He's spotted another impact on Jupiter.
