I just got a new Dell 5150 laptop and the touchpad doesn't seem to have the options my old inspiron has of tapping in the corners for "back" and "forward". I can't believe they abandoned this option. What am I missing?

I'd suggest you have a look in the Control Panel for the touchpad properties.
See what that says there as it's possible the facility is just switched off.
