@OCCOM BILL,
I would disagree that your version was not offensive. Wasn't provoking offense the whole point of drawing an image of their religious icon when one of their main religious tenets is that imagery of Mohammad is banned?

Yours was just less offensive than many of the others on Facebook because it was so generic in nature and not sexually depicting Mohammad in an act of bestiality.

For some segments of Islam (and many other religions in India), it isn't just religious imagery that is banned. No images of self are permitted either.

If you're interested in reading more about this, this is a good summary:

But they wouldn't expect you, me or anyone else who isn't Muslim to adhere to that rule, right?

I'm not Catholic, so I'd have a problem adhering to their rules or rituals. I wouldn't take kindly them insisting non-Catholics must go to confession,.

I'm not Muslim. It's their rule, law or ritual to not draw Mohammed. NOT MINE.

@OCCOM BILL,
I just checked the "photos" (images) this moment. 11,500 of them.

I liked this one:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs549.snc3/30064_602959318756_122505077_35682859_882493_n.jpg
And this one, right next to each other in upload order:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs509.ash1/30064_602959303786_122505077_35682857_2220983_n.jpg
Apologizing for my technical incompetence, what with being unable to show these latest images inline.

I humbly withdraw my first drawing having been too dumb to recognize what it was, and proffer Boriskitten's instead.

I'm sorry, I do not think this is actually true. A quick cruise of the 'net will demonstrate that Muslims have been depicting Muhammad, face and all, for Centuries Now. Respectfully so.

Also, I believe Muslims' "main religious tenets" are stated in their "holy book," the Koran.

There are NO statements, at all, about depicting Muhammad (or not) in the Koran.

Only "Commentaries on the Koran," (Hadith) written much later, suggest that MUSLIMS might not want to depict Muhammad, in order to prevent the idolatry so prevalent in other religions.

Even the Hadith say nothing about NON-Muslims depicting Muhammad.

Oh, PLEASE, my dear, smart, sensible fellow A2K'er, do NOT feel any guilt about anything you've posted on this thread, at all! And do NOT look up to ME, who has made many mistakes in the past, and who will doubt make many mistakes in the future, as well.

I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've engaged in discussions with Muslim women on the "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" Discussion Boards, due ONLY to this "event," and I like these women.

They are like me. Other folk would call them, perhaps, "Moderate Muslims." If they live in Islamic countries, I call them "Brave Women."

I think I should explore other websites, where Muslim women and myself (and you, and you over there, and you over over there) can talk about these womens' reluctance to stand up to "Radical Islam," which, as these women clearly state, has NOTHING TO DO with what was originally written in the Koran.

Links... searching.

Oh, and why do I mention women? I find them more talkative, that's all.

@Cycloptichorn,
Thank you so much, Cyclo. Sad to say, this isn't the first time I've been dumb.

EDIT: Sadly, it probably won't be the last, either! Thanks again.

@BorisKitten,
One of their main tenets is that MUSLIMS shall not depict Mohammed.

Don't say nuttin' about non-Muslims.

Or so Muslims on media have said.

See, that was what I was told (by Muslims) and have learned.

I think religious extremists (much like the Westboro Baptist Church) have stretched the truth for their own purposes.

@Cycloptichorn,
When Christians start threatening to kill people for stuff they have no right to impose on others again you can bet I'll be at those barricades too.

I'd be at them in the US right now for instance, where christian fundamentalist loonies carry signs saying gays should be killed and are killing abortion clinic staff.

@BorisKitten,
My apology is about having foolishly wished that anti-Muslim hate groups would not make a hate-fest of this.

Therefore, my whole point in adding a pic was NOT to add one that could be construed as a hate-motivated one, but a neutral one that was simply a token of standing up to people who threaten to kill others for simple expressions of free speech.

I stand up for the Danish cartoonist's right to do what he did, but I have no wish to depict Mohammed as a bomb in this situation.

Oh, I agree. And people ARE doing exactly that. But typing on your computer isn't the same thing as 'manning the barricades.' Not at all.

Today's youth doesn't seem to realize what actual activism is... it's been replaced by Slacktivism. Instead of protesting in Washington, they note their displeasure on their facebook page. Hardly the same - and you can see just how ineffectual modern protests have become as a result of this.

@Cycloptichorn,
I see this as a PART of activism...and don't you be a telling ME what activism is honey.

The whole point is simply to say "You can't kill us all and we aren't bowing to threats" to Islamist hate groups.

Nobody is saying this is all that can or should be done.

Then I suggest it doesnt bother them as much as it bothers you. Isnt that what it is all about ? If it bothers you then you protest, but not just to satisfy the agitated but because you believe ?

But, no Islaamic hate group issued a threat. Did you see Infrablue's piece earlier? Is this just a pre-emptive **** you to Islaamic hate groups?

If you have been involved with real activism, you know that this isn't the same.

I agree with bfn here. From my own pov, there has been some art mastery.

I have my own arguments, but really, this all seems so absurd.
