Oh, yes! Though artless in their looking to like
A real philosopher's stone
Smooth and pebble bright.
Seeing coral and coquina,
I feel my finger touch it,
A tiny rough edge
That causes me to think
But only when I want to drink
Without water.
Sitting on a rock at night
Taboos broken
Things not right
Nothing comes
And that is sight
Yes, artless.

Inspired by Fresco's observation

I think naive is good in romance; it makes it more exciting.

Hey, c.i. Smile When I speak of "romance" I mean sorta like castles in air. The Romantic period in literature was one of my favorites, especially English literature. Keats, Byron, Shelley, etc. This is not to say that romance of the physical sort has no place among the greats.

Dys, You're right. The simple things are the most awesome, but often more difficult to divine than esoteric and arcane words of sages.

Emerson said: "To be great is to be misunderstood", but I contend that the inverse of this statement is actually the way it should be. I guess having been a teacher in the REAL world has colored my outlook.

"Shall I compare thee to a summers day"
The bard seems simple in his passion.
His "heaven's eye" and "buds of May"
- Romantic images of gaudy fashion?

But complex nodes lie just below
this simple surface image-scape.
His pretty seasons come and go
For "eternal lines" to resonate.

And striving for romantic insights,
Lifts the mind to greater heights.

Letty, nous sommes d'accord encore. Cool

BTW for "complex nodes" try writing down your dream images as soon as you awake. You will be amazed at the number of levels of narrative going on.

oops, Fresco. Had to hastily thumb through my French 101 for that phrase. <smile>.

and I will do that, Fresco. What was it that George Bernard Shaw wrote as he was going under from ether? He supposedly asked for a pen and pad because he had suddenly determined the secret of life. Upon awakening, he found that he had written: The smell of ether permeates the room. Upon reflection, who's to say that ain't the secret. Laughing

Speaking of anesthetized:

Quel jour nous aujourd'hui?

Very Happy Laughing Cool Got it. The day after the night of logic.

Turning over in my mind,
The logic of simplistic time,
When Mama said no reason, rhyme.
Just do it.

So I did and that's the reason why I have remained a naive romantic to this day.

But

Under those castles in air I have a firm foundation.
