Telstra rang up and under the guise of 'we're checking your plan is best' asked her if she was interested in Bigpond Security product.
Given I own a software development company " she told them that I work in IT and if they email something to her she'd show it to me.
She never received the email and then the $9.95 charge appeared on our bill. She rang them and was told that SHE had requested to join and that following the 60 day trial we were now committed to a 12 month contract
Telstra's proof that WE requested the product? Someone at their end had ticked a box saying we asked for the product.
we lodged a complaint with the TIO.
We rang Telstra back 24hrs later and were put onto a different person " who quickly offered to cancel the whole contract and reverse any charges from our bills.

they are charging a $90 cancellation fee for the "breaking of contract"

I accepted the free trial offer over the phone, albeit reluctantly as BigPond rep did not accept 'no' for an answer. While I received the 'welcome' email on 22/6/09, I had never installed or activated the Security program. Yet I am advised that to cancel this so-called 'contract', a penalty of 99.95 will be charged as the 60 day 'trial' period has elapsed.

BigPond offers internet security for $99; Optus offers it free

I too am an unsatisfied Bigpond Security owner!! I have exactly the same issues as Bob with both the Non Response from Bigpond to the most frustrating error of all time "ESP NT System Service Launcher". Amazingly, if you do a search we are not the only Bigpond Security users experiencing this problem, but we all seem to share the same common issue - NO SUPPORT and NO ANSWERS! I was a previous user of Symatec Nortons and was convinced by your telemarketer that Bigpond Security was the be all and end all in Security. I think the easiest thing to do now is go back to another security provider (my choice this time will be Kaspersky). Though reading thru the treads i have found it will be a little more difficult to get rid of this error even when we uninstall Bigpond...Thanks!

I have had numerous problems with this software and I'm far from happy with Bigpond's Support - particularly the NON-EXISTENT on-line support!
It crashes daily (sometimes seveal times a day) with the same error:
"ESP NT System Service Launcher has encountered a problem and need to close...etc etc.
I did finally get some help by 'phone where a technician accessed my PC to "fix" the problem but it came back again and again and again....

I can see the system is running bigpond internet security (BIS)…
I get annoyed with the slow PC, so I uninstall Bigpond internet security (BIS),
I update antivir and defender, and antivir immediately complains about: a5vdmow5yog.exe, cryptextq.dll, browselect.exe
So the system was infected! and Bigpond I.S. didn’t even hint at there being a problem… Once again: a free antivirus beats a payed-for one…

Hi,
I just looked up Bigpond security. There is no way I would put it on my system.
two reasons:
1) it does not have high enough ratings by security review companies. It doesn't catch all viruses, trojans and ad/malware. That is a big reason!
2) Absolutely ridiculous price @ $99.00 for 1 pc. (ESET is rated far higher. First year for 2 pc's is @ €63 second year for two pcs is €44)
It is your choice, but I prefer Internet Suites that actually do the job silently without eating up huge amounts of memory and have a realistic market price . This is my own preference based on my research and experiences.
