@Ragman,

the whole squad is on the same page as far as taking pitches, working the count, grinding out at-bats.
that's what they're teaching hitters throughout the org.
the opposing starter gets worn out, and they hafta dip into their bullpen a lot earlier than they'd like.

last night, the padres were forced to throw 217 pitches.
that's a lot for a 9-inning game...

@Region Philbis,
I just heard that in the big 7th inning, nine of the ten runs were scored with 2 outs.

Yes, agreed about that high pitch count. Typically a lot of pitches is a count of 150-160.

big papi will reportedly play first base tonight, moving AG to right field.

pedroia ain't too thrilled about it.

"It will be good for us offensively, but damn, I'm going to have to play second, first and right,"
Pedroia joked to reporters. "I've got small legs. That's a lot of ground to cover."

@Region Philbis,
I like Dustin and I like his making a joke like that. The old cliche about Red Sox being a team full of '25 players-who-take-25-taxis' is over. This team plays with unity. The good thing is these owners are so on top of things -- pro-active...unlike the Sawx owners of old. The season is long and has another 80 games to go!

Lee (3rd straight shutout) was unstoppable yesterday. He threw ahead on the count from the start, hit the corners with authority. I feel that no team in baseball could hit what he was throwing yesterday. No one (2 walks 2 hits) who did reach base, could mount a scoring threat the whole night. This guy's the real deal and barring injury, he'll be there in the playoffs and maybe the WS. MERCY!

Let's see how the Sawx rally against Ryan Howard and the Phils tonight. Platooning JD Drew and Cameron has failed miserably so the team has to come up with a new plan. Darrell McDonald looks like a bust too.

Crawford is still injured, too, but is scheduled to come back and play on Sunday. The rumor mill is heating up again about possible signing of Carlos Beltran from the Mets for playing right field and hitting in 6th slot. UIf mets aren't in contention in july, a trade (for a minor league major prospect) could be happening. They seriously looked at him over the winter, but signed Crawford instead.

Rumor is also strong for a trade to get Jeff Francoeur of the Royals. He has a strong throwing arm, hits lefties and could be available. Crossing fingers.

Above ital text was paraphrased from Nick Carfado's column on today's Boston Globe.

@Ragman,

beltran is intriguing, but injury-prone.
francouer is not a patient hitter.
that said, either one would be an upgrade over what we now have playing RF...

@Rockhead,

personally i think they should give the job to young josh reddick.
he bats left, but seems to handle lefties pretty well...

@Region Philbis,
It would make sense to try using Reddick. The cost to give up young AAA talent is too high vs using what you already have and is servicable.

gotta love pedroia arguing with home plate ump laz diaz on a questionable strike call --

http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Dustin+Pedroia+Laz+Diaz+Boston+Red+Sox+v+Houston+LAwkoGA44J0l.jpg

he got a big base hit on the next pitch, and had a few more words for diaz on his way to first!

thank dawg they're done with interleague.
nice little sweep in houston -- beckett pitched like an all-stah.
feel bad for brad mills -- he has no bullpen whatsoever...

crawford's hammy is almost 100%.
they want buchholz to be pain-free before he starts throwing again.
not sure where lowrie is in his shoulder rehab.
will be nice to get everyone healthy for the 2nd half.
those damn yankees are playing great and have pulled away a bit...
