AG was named AL player of the month for june.
he hit .404 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 25 RBI in 25 games.

well deserved, the guy has been everything we heard he would be.
we need the bats to get and stay hot, what with the shaky state of the starting rotation...

@Region Philbis,
I wonder how back-to-back came to mean "consecutive" . . .

I always get an image of two people standing with their backs toward
each other. That makes it hard to imagine back-to-back-to-back.

@George,

the sawx and O's did their bruins-canadiens impression in the 8th inning last night.

papi took exception to not only the 3 consecutive (way) inside pitches he got from reliever kevin gregg,
but especially to gregg's gesturing for him to run to first after he popped up the 4th pitch.

http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2011/07/09/070911_ortiz609__1310195043_9303.jpg

punches were thrown, but none appeared to've connected.
both were ejected, as were one player each from each bullpen, and both dugouts were warned.
fine$ are most likely forthcoming, possibly suspensions...

R(oh yeah, we won the game 10-3)P

@Region Philbis,
Youkilis to replace A-Rod on AL All-Star squad
By Jason Mastrodonato / MLB.com

Quote:
Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis will replace the Yankees Alex Rodriguez on the All-Star team this Tuesday in Phoenix, AZ.

Youkilis, also an All-Star in 2008 and '09, is hitting .275 this season, with 50 runs, 12 homers and 59 RBIs. He's second to only Jose Bautista in on-base percentage (.394) among American League third basemen.

@Region Philbis,
The ump had just motioned to through Grieg out - just before Papi ran after him - ump did not like Grieg starting it up. Wasn't this guy in trouble before.

Although I would have loved to see Papi land that punch. They had the game won in the first inning. I thought my husband was joking when I walked in and he told me it was the first inning and the score.

@Linkat,

apparently it's bad baseball etiquette to swing on a 3-0 count when you're up by seven.

unfortunately this'll cost papi a few games -- not something the team needs while dealing with
all the injuries to starting pitchers.

as an all-stah and veteran player, he should've taken the high road,
gone straight to the dugout, and enjoyed the win.

pitchers will be on short leashes tonight...

@Region Philbis,
I just turned on all a'yah, and have become a Sam Fuld fan and thus for the Tampa Bay Rays. Manager seems sane too.

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/sportingscene/2011/06/sam-fuld-videos.html

The original article (danger - it got me interested) is locked, which means you either have to be a subscriber or pay a few dollars to read the thing by Ben McGrath, an always read writer for me.

(Dodgers, my home team, is swimming in the depths of despond, but I was not a fan anyway, even before the imbecile owner)

@Region Philbis,
this isn't little league...and I'd also consider that trying to hit a batter 3 times in a row is considered bad manners in baseball as well.

big papi has to sit for 4 games (as does gregg).
he'll appeal it so he can play this weekend @ tampa.

if he's smart, he'll start serving the penalty monday when the sawx travel to bawlly more...

@Rockhead,

he's letting personal stuff affect his performance this year.
he gets all bent outta shape if tito takes him out in the middle of an inning.
from what i've seen, he is not a good teammate.

he's got 4 years left on an $82 mill deal -- not sure anyone wants him, even if
the sawx eat a portion of it...

@Region Philbis,
he almost had a quality start yesterday.

almost...

I wasn't impressed when he was an angel, but what do I know.

that's a lot of money for a 6 era.
