He had a smile that could charm a coon out of a tree, Walt Disney decided, and he hired Fess Parker in the role of Davy Crockett. It was a series of five made for TV episodes that became as popular then as was Star Wars to a later generation. Parker later starred in The Great Locomotive Chase and a few other films. He starred as Daniel Boone in a TV series. Parker was 82.

My earliest memory of an event in public was seeing Fess Parker's mug spread across the big screen at a theater.
