My new computer's email (Outlook Express 6) has been set up to display my messages as being from me - ie my real name - instead of dlowan - this bothers me since I send lots of emails to people/places I do not know well enough to be happy to be so identified,
How can I change it? I have looked in the Help menu to no avail - clearly I am not looking in the right place.
Eeeeeeeeek!
Appalled in Adelaide (And thanks to ehBeth, who noticed!)
Try this:
Go to Tools>Accounts; click the "Mail" tab and highlight the account you are using for e-mail. Click on "Properties" to the right. Under the "General" tab, find "User Information" and see what is listed in the Name category. If this is your real name, replace it with dlowan and it should (?) fix the problem.
(I have Outlook Express 5, but hopefully things haven't changed that much for version 6)
hmmmmm - i have a slightly older Express but try looking under tools and then accounts.
well then - looks like lab rat's got the answer if your OE works the same way.
good explanation, lab rat.
Thank you both! I think it worked!!!!!
Damn - my real name has gone a number of places it oughtn't......
I've sent your real name to a whole shitload of horny teenagers. Any correspondence yet?
Snort? Snort! Somebody is finally speaking my language!
Deb, it's been that way for the past few years. Beth had it right. Tools, then accounts, double click the account and change the name.
You don't want people knowing that you're really Ted Schniedelman?
No, I don't.
WHAT'S been the same for the past few years?
I have changed it!
