With all the threads about Valentine's Day and so on, we seem to have overlooked the fact that today is also the first day of The Year of the Tiger. Comments anyone? Cool pix?

Happy New Year, y'all!

@Merry Andrew,
I just happen to be reading The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan.. an engrossing book. I learned that all your debts are supposed to be paid before the start of the New Year..

@ossobuco,
I wanna make some of the Lemon pepper prawns like they serve at PF Changs. They dont slobber everything in sauce, its more alight basting and the shrimp are just (sort of) bbq'd with a slight smoky taste.(Lotta people like PF Changs, Lotta people dont, I like em)

Served with lapsang , its a great meal but I wanna know how to make it for a New Years get-together.

I used to live near NYC's Chinatown. I miss the food, nothing like where I live now. I also miss the little toys they would sell to celebrate the New Year. Here is one of this year's tigers:

@Merry Andrew,
Hmmmm ... an auspicious year or not?

That's what I want to know.

An improvement on 2009 would be most welcome.

So I'm trying to figure out whether it'll be a Metal Tiger year ( Very Happy ), or a White Tiger year ( Neutral ) ....

Quote:
2010 is Year of Tiger and it will arrive on February 4, 2010. Many people must be eager to know they have better luck in the coming year than 2009. .....

According to Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, 2010 is the Year of Metal Tiger. Gold is related to Metal and money. People who like to talk about wealth will say that 2010 is a Golden Tiger year. In Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth) theory, the color representing metal is White. Therefore, we also can say that 2010 is the Year of White Tiger. The White Tiger is connected to the symbol of jinx in China history. Some Chinese might consider that 2010 White Tiger is a bad year

@msolga,
Oh -- we were walking to the Reservoir yesterday when we saw a guy slipping a bunch of yellow and red papers into a pot with a fire (on his front porch). What is the significance of this ritual? Was he burning up his troubles, perhaps?

@jespah,
My guess (& being no expert) is that it might have been a new year good luck ritual, jespah. For good luck, prosperity, etc. (That is if he was Chinese.)

We have a few Chinese A2Kers here. It'd be great if they could enlighten us.
