Reply Wed 3 Feb, 2010 09:42 pm
Yesterday my computer would not start. Everything checked out ok. I tried in the am, at lunch, and in the evening. Was ok the day before, and its ok today. I had the same problem about six months ago. It just took the day off! Any Ideas on this?

@jespah,
Sorry, its a Generic P4 new about 2002, highly maintained, single user, no junk in this pc. Also, since my initial posting, it suddenly crashed and a "Award Bios Setup Utility" screen appeared. Told me something about the speed of something, I forgot, but its ok now, just ok a change it made, and save, and I did. Does that help?

The AwardBIOS™ installed in your computer system’s ROM (Read Only
Memory) is a custom version of an industry standard BIOS. This means that
it supports Intel/Cyrix/AMD processors in a standard IBM-AT compatible
input/output system. The BIOS provides critical low-level support for
standard devices such as disk drives and serial and parallel ports.

The AwardBIOS™ is immediately activated when you first power on the
computer. The BIOS reads the system information contained in the CMOS
and begins the process of checking out the system and configuring it. When it
finishes, the BIOS will seek an operating system on one of the disks and then
launch and turn control over to the operating system.

@socoldhere,
this could be caused by any number of different problems.
i suspect a power problem such as brownout or voltage drop. low voltage Either from your supplier trying to shed load or a fault in your computer power supply.
hard disc or video initialisation faults could also cause the problem.

as your machine seems to be performing adequatly at present i'd not worry too much. just note any error messages and save them to a paper copy file for a bit.

@dadpad,
Thank You...I also thought computer power supply potential problem. Good idea to keep paper log. I will do that. All's fine now.
