You have 10 pairs of socks, five black and five blue, but they are not paired up. Instead, they are all mixed up in a drawer. How many socks must you pull out to guarantee that you have a pair of one color? How many must you pull out to have two good pairs? How many must you pull out to be certain you have a pair of black socks?
@Merry Andrew,
Now I have to roll them all back up and put them away.
@George,
Wouldn't 5 guarantee two pairs?
3 socks gives you 2 black and one blue
You will have a second pair with only 2 more socks

You're right. I was assuming that the two pair had to be one pair of each color.
your last answer was 12 and there are only 10 socks. here is my answer:
3
5
6
@sweetie117,
6, 7 and 7 in that order
three is wrong, you can pull three blues
you could pull 5 blues in a row and then have to get only blacks from there on in
wait its pairs of the same colour :/
