Creative suggestions needed: what to do with 35 (possibly more!) unripe, rock-hard apricots?

@Rockhead,
No, the language barrier is actually with you, I'm afraid! <sniff>

Right. The ripening in paper bags thing.

That is definitely a possibility, Rocky.

I await further information on the details.

Thank you! Smile

The paper bag might well do the trick, for all I know, Rocky!

You think I need an organic chemist's advice? Wink Very Happy

See if the buggers ripen, then stew 'em!

@dlowan,
Another "ripening" suggestion. Thanks, Deb.

If anyone knows if such tough little devils can actually ripen, under what conditions & for roughly how long this would take, I'd appreciate your advice.

@msolga,
Puttin em in a paper bag wont do much besides lettin em rot in a group. You need a fruit that gives off ethylene gas <something like an apple ) The ehylene gas prompts ripening without speeding up the "decay" cycle.

I was just sittin round doin early mornin nerdy stuff till i saw this clot of fruit questions, and I sid to myself that "I must go and help this folk, lest that miserable moose give halfass advice"

Well thank you, farmer! Very good of you.

So what I need is a few paper bags (quite a few rock-hard apricots, I have!). With an apple is each one. Yes?
And then I need to keep a close watch on the ripening process, lest they become over-ripe?

I think I can do that! Smile

@msolga,
Then I'll have to figure out what I'll do with them, once the all little devils ripen. Most likely all at once!

Stew the little buggers

Or dry 'em a bit and then stew 'em.

Right!

Will do.

Thanks, Deb.

@msolga,
Actually, if you do that, it's cool when you add other dried fruit, and make a stewed dried fruit salad!

@msolga,
you will need
brown paper bag, 1 very ripe bananna, as many of the little devils as will fit in the bag. close the top of the bag off. leave for 2 days, then check apricots for ripeness

it might work in a closed tuppaware container as well.

the theory: over ripe fruit gives off a natural chemical which will assit the unripe fruit to ripen.

Keep 'em in a bowl by the door, and when your obnoxious neighbors get too loud, chuck 'em at the yobs, and bean 'em with the little, rock-hard apricots . . .

@dadpad,
Ah. Thanks, dadpad.

First the apple solution, now the banana solution.

Decisions, decisions!

@msolga,
This may sound lame, but have you considered just letting the apricots lay around to ripen for a week or two?

@Thomas,
Ah, I see you have. (I read the rest of the thread in the meantime.) In this case, I'd second Rockhead's spud gun. After all, human rights are important to you. These apricots give you brilliant opportunity to stand up for your right to hold and bear arms.

@msolga,
What do unripe apricots generally taste like? Are they underwhelming in flavor? Or do they taste like ordinary apricots just with a much unpalatable texture? If it's the latter then why not try to blend them into some kind of smoothie cocktail like thingy? If they lack a little flavor? Why not add a complementary ice cream flavor to the mix?
