My husband has really fine fly-away hair. He uses gel, if he's going out of the house.

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the drug store, and saw that old product, Brylcreem.

I brought home a tube, but he said "naw, I used that when I was married to first wife, and her mother wouldn't let me sit on the couch after I left a stain on it from my head.

Fine.

I used a tiny little dab yesterday, about the size of my pinkie nail, and lemme tell ya, this stuff is great!

Not using the amount need to make that old fashioned DA, it really does make your do more manageable.

That is all.

@dlowan,
I was thinking it would sort of give the hair a conditioned hold, Deb.

I wish chai would come back & tell us!

Chai is too embarrassed to say more about it. It works better on her hair than on mine. Nothing works for my hair (except maybe cement).

It's a floor wax.
It's a desert topping.

It's both!

msolga, I used it on my hair.

I like boof, quasi bed head look.
I want it to stay that way during the day.

That old expression "I just washed my hair and I can't do a thing with it." describes me.

When fresh washed, my hair's too soft to hold the lift, even with gel, leave in conditioner, spray, etc.

I took a tip from shewolf and stopped washing my hair every day.
Day 1 I wash
Day 2 I just dampen it with my fingers in the shower.
Day 3 and day 4 I "wash" my hair with conditioner to get out the products but not to over clean it.

I washed my hair yesterday, and applied gel to the roots when it was mostly dry, as usual.
Then, when it was dry, I applied the dab of Brylcreem.

It added just enough oil for my hair to think it wasn't squeeky clean, and allowed me to scrunch the boof into it with my fingers, messing it up at the same time.

Then, I lifted sections of hair and applied squirts of hair spray to the roots.

BTW, the BEST spray I've ever found it VO5 max hold, in the red can.

It's cheap, and it works without using a lot.

This morning in the shower I just ran my wet fingers through my hair, then, later added another dab of Brylcreem

All told, doing my hair takes about 2 minutes.

I used Brylecreem, in the late 50s and early 60s. It did keep my hair in place, like it was molded on there.

Ah! This is what I was hoping you'd say, chai, because I, too, experience this challenge on a regular basis:

Quote:
"I just washed my hair and I can't do a thing with it." describes me.

When fresh washed, my hair's too soft to hold the lift ....

... as I have very fine hair, like Wally's, but quite thick & very willful! Evil or Very Mad

Once, as a recommended "treatment", the prince had me ( & quite a few others here!) condition it overnight with pure olive oil. Which sort of did the trick, but you know ... the overnight thing? Towel & plastic bag on my head. It was a little inconvenient. Smile

Quote:

I washed my hair yesterday, and applied gel to the roots when it was mostly dry, as usual.
Then, when it was dry, I applied the dab of Brylcreem.

So, in a nutshell, it (Brylclean) acts as a sort of after-wash conditioner & body booster? I hope so!

I think I might try this!

Thanks for putting the idea into my head. (Whoda thunk?! Surprised )

I shall report back!

You & Wally are a great team, by the way. Thanks, both of you!
