@sumac,
Good morning dear Ms Sumac. Still reading as I can. Life is hectic.

The little old girl dog is almost completely blind from cataracts now - she still seems to be able to pick up some shadows if it is bright out - but some of her favourite fetch and catch type games are beyond her now. She needs extra love these days - and it sure doesn't hurt to share love with the old dogs.

Reading and working.

sumac, that's right. We had a good rain last night, then more sunshine. Unless we get more soon it won't matter ---Fall begins Friday.

You no longer follow FAA Notams, right? Please check it whenever you click on the trees site. A bus-sized 6-ton satellite is on a downwards trajectory passing over your home - but word is it's more likely to crash into water. Still, if you hear a loud noise, it may not be that proverbial tree falling in the forest Smile

@High Seas,
Hi HS......... Yes, I've been seeing the news - that's about as good as it gets for now. The experts won't know where it will hit until after the fact. Besides that, there are hundreds and hundreds of meteorites that hit the earth each day --- and I just heard on the news that we are being bombarded by space junk falling to and hitting the earth by the hundreds each day since the '70's.

Just living is a risk these days.

Thanks for the help.

@danon5,
Your expectation of "experts" was really optimistic....The satellite came down somewhere, but if you expect our "experts" to tell you where you'll have to wait - they've just narrowed it down to half the planet. Do you know if NORAD is still in business, or were they cut out after we lost our AAA rating?!

....was flying over Canada, Africa and parts of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans....NASA estimated that roughly 26 large pieces of the spacecraft would survive the re-entry process to be strewn over a 500-mile (804-kilometer) path. The largest piece of debris is expected to be approximately 300 pounds (136 kg), but it is still unconfirmed whether debris fell over land or water.

@High Seas,
Hi HS. I Googled NORAD and came up with a lot. Here is the site =
http://www.norad.mil/

I didn't read it. I guess according to the latest news report that the whole thing burned up and fell into the Pacific.

@danon5,
Pieces of satellite fell on Canada. Tks for link btw - didn't know the Canadians have their own HQ, thought US/Can were covered from a single location.

@danon5,
NORAD is innocent - the sat tracking HQ is at Vanderberg. Don't lose faith Smile

...To foresee the paths of space junk so that collisions can be avoided, NASA developed one of the world's most sophisticated predictive models. Called Legend (for "low-Earth to geosynchronous environment debris"), the three-dimensional model simulates the routes of all trackable space objects and even factors in new debris from future crashes. To take uncertainty and randomness into account, hundreds of scenarios are generated using the Monte Carlo method, a set of algorithms that can calculate risk factors in a complex environment. With Legend, NASA scientists use the average of multiple simulations to estimate the number, size, and type of objects that will collide—and approximately how often. Unlike models used by the U.S. Strategic Command Joint Space Operations Center, which detects and tracks large objects and screens active satellites daily for possible collisions within 72 hours, Legend includes smaller fragments and looks far into the future.

@High Seas,
What a treasure trove of postings from long missed posters here.

Danon, we got some of that rain too - but ours streamed up from off the Florida coastline - colliding with a cold front. Most welcome.

Did my clicking

@High Seas,
HS, I never loose faith. That's the only thing we humans really have left to believe in.

NASA Legend sounds like a spooky sci-fi movie to me. There are things told to us that aren't true. For instance, there was a meteorite the size of a bus that just missed the earth. It came BETWEEN the earth and the moon when it passed us............... That was only less than two weeks ago. Did we get a warning?? NO!!!!!!!!!!! Why? Less knowledge for the public.

Thanks for keeping up with us and you have saved another tree today!!!!!!!

Love all (ya) Wildclickers!!!!!!!!!

@danon5,
Who you callin' a "wall"?! You got faithful readers here! Clickin' away, supporting them trees! Maybe your suspicions about Vandenberg AFB were right, though - they may have their own secret hangar where they're hiding ehBeth's new thread.... Give it until Monday, then call the FAA to raise the alarm Smile
