My employer gave me a riddle today...

and I need help! When I got to work he asked my year of birth. I said, "1962, why?". He said he was just curious then a few minutes later he gave me a 1964 silver quarter with a piece of paper that said, "ottdowbcmfbgtm' Then a few hours later he gave me more letters, "assq'. This last set of letters supposedly goes on the end of the former set without a space. He says I have until Christmas Eve to figure it out. Also, I'm a goldsmith if that has anything to do with this thing.

insufficient vowels i think for a mixed up word or words. So it could be substitution.

re the goldsmith trade: Is it some kind of hallmark?

@NoOneImportant,
I think we need to know what is on a 1964 silver quarter. Do you know of a connection between your birthyear 1962 and the minting of the coin 1964 ? Xmas eve is 24/12 or 12/24.

@Ionus,
I honestly have no idea what or where the connection is. It is just a silver quarter.
I'm a goldsmith, not a puzzle solver... And I am unhappy that I'm given this trivial and tedious game!

@dadpad,
Substitution for what though?
"re the goldsmith trade: Is it some kind of hallmark?" What does that mean???
Sorry, like I said, I'm a goldsmith, not a puzzle solver... I'm good at what I do, not so good at games.

I suspect the letters are an acronym, but it's too long to try to solve and the clues are too little. One can assume the last letters of the puzzle "sq" is 'silver quarter', one of the "t's" is 'the'. From there, who can say.

The acronym looks like a play on words to the song, "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me..."

"mfb"..my (*******? favorite?) boss
"gtm"...gave to me

@NoOneImportant,
Using tycoons code :

ottd - On The (Twelth ?) Day....
owbc - Of Work Before Christmas
mfb - My (F) Boss
gtm - Gave To Me
assq - A Shiny Silver Quarter

Then tell your boss that or just put it down and ignore it.

ottdowbcmfbgtm
I can see web cam and facebook. gtm could be google trademark.
I'm was starting to think this is some kind of (not very well constructed) internet prank except google only records one incidence of those letters.

On The Twelfth Day of Web Cam Facebook Gave To Me ?????
assq

Just randomising things in my head in the hope that it might stir something for someone else.

A gold smith that doesnt know what a hallmark is ????
