When the police do a background check on you, can they see if your married or not?
@OutOfNoWhere,
i would guess it would depend on how deep they check, but if you're married they can probably find out
i'm curious, why do you ask
@djjd62,
Yeah, I'm curious, too. A police check on your background is specifically geared to discover whether you've ever been arrested or brought to court in another capacity (e.g. defendant in a civil case) and whether there are any outstanding warrants against you. Can they discover whether you are or have ever been married? Sure, that's easy. But why would they care?
A credit check would reveal your marital status, but not a police check when stopped for a traffice offense. It would only bring up your driving record.
If they look deep enough they can even tell who you're sleeping with besides your wife.
HA!
Just entering your social security number into their computer pulls that information up.
But it does not matter unless it is a situation of domestic violence and they are trying to determine the stats of the people involved. And that.. is only because it helps outline what charges a person would get.
If you were arrested for purchasing a hooker for example, it is not going to matter if you are married or not. Your marital status does not effect what law they are charging you with.
But if you are caught as a man, beating a woman, then it can be spousal abuse if you are married so they will need to know, domestic abuse if you are just living together and battery or public misconduct or .. many other odd ball titles if you are just in public in a fight.
does that help answer?
