We paid something like $40/5-piece place setting new. It's discontinued now, and you'd be lucky to find that dinner plate alone for under $100.
I remember my daughter, who was about six at the time, retrieving her plate (one of those above) from a quick reheat in the microwave and dropping it. She burst into tears, not because she broke the plate, but because she ruined her dinner...
I broke my mom's only platter in her good china set when I tried to carry it like a waitress on my fingertips when I was a kid - boy did I get a whack!
How about I change up the subject a bit with:....
