@Letty,
letty :
dowsing is still a well practiced art in rural ontario

.........................................................................................
my hometown (hamburg) used to be the major homeport for germany's whaling fleet from the 16th century right up to WW II .
i still remember seing the whalers(the motherships) and the hunters (smaller boats that would hunt the whales , harpoon them and tow them to the mothership) coming back into port after the whaling season .

this picture was done BEFORE my time Wink

hunter
note the "bucket" at the top of the mast where the "whalespotter" would be on the lookout for whales .
the harpoon cannon is located on the bow .

@hamburger,
I think this one was on the lookout for breadfruit, hbg. Built in Nova Scotia. Didn't know that.

Tuna fishing boats similar to the ones used by my son, note the little cabins on top of the mast, this is where the 'spotter' sits to watch for schools of fish.

@Letty,
such an enourmous fish ... what a puny sandwich it makes !

btw that "spotter's cabin" seems quite an improvement over the barrel used on the whale-hunters .

(years ago we quite successfully had a chicken breed two turkey eggs - quite funny to see the turkey chicks grow up)
