Quote:
L'Acadie
(Roger Stone)

Have you ever been here where the cool Atlantic air
Whispers l'Acadie to those so far away from here.
Over two hundred years, and a thousand bitter tears
Have failed to drown the pride of l'Acadie.

Woman, child and man were taken from their land
By men who got their orders from men beyond our borders.
Sweethearts watched from the shore, their loves to hold no more
As they sailed from their hearts in l'Acadie.

Chorus:
Hear our children playing
And we know they are here to stay
Where their fathers returned to their children and their lovers
Sailed back to the heart of l'Acadie.

Instrumental break

Over two hundred years, and a thousand bitter tears
The tongues that gave the orders are threatening our borders.
And the powerful few, with blood like me and you
Should have learned a thing or two from l'Acadie.

Chorus:

Tag:
The place for you and me is l'Acadie.
La place pour toi et moi est l'Acadie.

acadians being ordered to leave their country of ACADIA forever !

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/a/a3/215px-Deportation_of_Acadians_order,_painting_by_Jefferys.jpg

here is a story told to us some years ago when we stayed in prince-edward island in a b and b .
the couples' ancestors were acadians living in prince-edward island .
when they heard that acadians were being rounded up in nova-scotia and new brusnwick , they decided to hide in the forests until the troops would leave . they had sympathetic neighbours who helped them build a shelter and who supplied them with food and drink . their family history records that they lived in the woods for several years - helped by their neighbours - until it was safe again for them to come out and "return to life" .
a sad , but also encouraging story showing that their neighbours protected them from the british troops and helped them to survive and eventually prosper again !

SAILING ON THE "AMPHITRITE"
-------------------------------------

Quote:
Come all ye jolly sailors brave
That wear the jackets blue,
While I relate the dangers great
And hardships of the sea;
It's of a ship called the Amphitrite,
With a hundred and eight females,
With cargo and crew and passengers too,
Bound out to see the great whales.

(modified by hbg from : "bound out to new south-wales :wink: )

2. It was on the eighteenth day of June,
From the city we set sail,
Leaving our friends behind us,
It grieved our hearts full sore.
And as we bore along the shore,
Till our friends got out of sight,
Saying, "Adieu unto you blue-eyed girls
On board of the Amphitrite."

3. About twelve o'clock on the third day,
We were all put to a stand,
When our goodly ship she ran aground,
All on a bank of sand;
And the children around their parents flocked
And tore their hair with fright,
For to think they must end their days
On board of the Amphitrite.
4. When our captain found he was aground,
Both anchors he let go,
Saying, "Go reef your fore and main-top sails,
Or soon our fate we'll know!"
When our ship she gave one dreadful reel,
And soon went out of sight
And the shriek and cries would reach the skies,
On board of the Amphitrite.
5. All that reached the shore out of our crew
Were two poor lads and me;
We reached the shore all on a spar,
We swam the briny sea.
One was exhausted by the waves,
He died that very night;
That left only two out of our crew
On board of the Amphitrite.

6. Now the Amphitrite is lost and gone,
Both passengers and crew,
Besides thirty-five as brave sailor lads,
As ever wore jackets blue.
God grant relief to those poor souls,
And to those lamenting quite;
God grant relief to those poor souls
On board of the Amphitrite.

our experience was surely better than that of those poor sailors !

the nova-scotian schooner BLUENOSE .
nova-scotians are called BLUENOSERS and the schooner was labelled after them .

that's why they prefer rubbing noses - called "eskimo kiss" :wink:

That was my implication with that "...too cold to kiss...", hbg. :wink:

It seems to me that Eskimos put the old folks on an ice floe when they could no longer eat whale blubber. Better than starvation.
