portuguese bull fight - which is so very different from the spanish bullfight
in the portuguese bullfight it's both the rider AND the horse who together put on a great show - and the bull is not killed .
the horses have a lenghty training period and the rules prescribe that the horns of the bull must not touch the horse , if the rider wants to be acknowledged as a CAVALIER .
it had its origins in the training of riders and horses to fight and defeat the moorish invaders .
so it is more an " exhibition of horsemanship " than simply the killing of a bull .
