you could also use the wooden clogs as a miniature lifeboat :wink:
sailors in the olden days very often wore "dutch clogs" - those without the leather tops ; they do keep your feet warm .

Booting up a computer? Why do they call it that?

it was the computer i learned to "program" starting in december 1961 .
the computer was not installed until 1963 !
any programs we wrote (using assembler , RPG and COBOL "languages" ) had to be taken to montreal for "debugging" and testing .
since computer access time was scarce , we would take the train to montreal on friday after work , were usually allowed access to the computer on friday and saturday nights , travelled back to kingston on sunday and be back at work on monday morning , where we continued to use "tabulating" machines until the computer arrived !
before the computer was installed , a special room was constructed with a false floor to hide the massive inter-connecting cables . it was also the first room in the office with air-conditioning - but it was for the benefit of the computer not for us :wink: !
btw we were all dressed quite formally !
computer disk drives were the size of washing machines !
