i really did enjoy going to school .
if you are wondering about the unsual background ; i grew up in the port of hamburg and those are warehouses in the background .
the little satchel is holding my lunch - milk and cocoa was supplied in school .

of course , it wasn't play all the time !
as "junior longshoreman" we knew how to handle the goods (wearing proper leather aprons , of course !) .
my friend henry is standing by with the pike to assist in the work .

after a day of "studying and working" i was always ready to join the other longshoremen in the "canteen" where we would wet our parched throats (my dad - the "bossman" is second from the left .)
growing up amongst the longshoremen meant that there were always adults ready to listen and give advice to a curious youngster .
