even st. marten - the dutch side of the island - will do , even though the "welcome" sign looked a litle moth-eaten when we arrived
we took a sidetrip to the french side of the island , called "st. martin" of course , and "mon dieu" the difference was just unbelievable ! the finest french restaurants , policemen in crisp uniforms and polished boots - the dutch side was really "laid back" - if they would have laid back any more they would have fallen right into the caribbean !
