dvd/cd drives.
I know i am a little late replying, but due to a sequence of personal and computer problems [mostly sorted now] i haven't been to visit for a while. i found the solution to the problem. this is what it turned out to be. i found it because somebody [can't remember who] suggested updating drivers for the ide channels, which took me there. as soon as i saw what was in advanced settings, i realised that the ide channel [or at least device 1] was disabled.
1.Right click my computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager
2.open ide/atapi controllers.
3.Double click the channel on which drive is installed, or right click and chose properties. (in my case secondary ide channel).
4.Click advanced settings tab. [In device 0 device type is greyed out, since I already have dvd rom installed there.]
5.In device 1, 'device type' I opened the drop down list and chose auto detection.
6.I rebooted, checked bios was still recognising both drives, continued with re-boot and hey presto! There was the drive!!. I knew it would be simple. Hope somebody else can benefit from this. Thanx to all those who responded.
