i think flashdrives are going
to replace hardrives becuase they are
portable, can hold a LOT of memory and are pretty cheap
what do you think?

@C99,
They've started manufacturing NVRAM-based "hard drives". The performance is pretty phenomenal.

I agree. I've always thought that solid state drives would eventually replace clunky old spinning drives.

Traditional "Hard Drives" suck because they have moving parts. Things with moving parts suck (well, not everything, but computer stuff). Anyway, solid-state devices are superior in durability, reliability, scalability and energy consumption. The only drawback is cost, but as more solid state devices are built the cost will go down and eventually the price-point will make them more attractive than the drives with moving parts.

@rosborne979,
NVRAM eventually wears out. I'm not sure how long it takes, though.

Correct. I'm not sure how long at this point either, but I know the read/write cycles are getting better and better as the tech improves. At some point they will exceed the life expectancy of a hard drive (not sure where the break even point is).
