BTW Sofia, I don't have a single qualm with your definition of patriotism. It made me re-evaluate what I think about patriotism. My qualm is just in that I do not consider it fair to label dloan "pushy" for tying to get a wroking definition of patriotism to avoid an apples and oranges debate.

Yup. One of the most valuable notions/habits which my philosophy studies inculcated was the stipulation of key terms right off the bat before any discussion commenced.

She is the one who trotted out Humpty Dumpty. I merely rolled him back over in her direction.

Ok, and to be fair you were, indeed not pushy with your definition. But workable definitions are the key to a discussion, as blatham notes.

As it happens, it has been quite illuminating to see how people define it - and, hopefully, a few people have realised why others get so offended by others' differing attitude to it - something which has puzzled me greatly about, for instance, you and Perception in the past, Sofia

You have alluded to this before. I can't recall ever being offended when someone had a differing opinion of patriotism. It doesn't seem possible, unless I was tanked. I think you are mistaken. Please prove it, or retract it, and stop mentioning it.

Just to clarify.. when you say "need" you really speak of "a sexual need for craven's man meat" right? ;-)

Sofia - I speak of yours and Perception's little diatribe on the abolish the electoral college thread - which actually sparked this thread - as I said there.

And stop being pushy.

Ohh. How impressive! You can write essays! Thank you for telling us.
Your fawning audience is swaying with adulation. "I am writing an essay..." I'm sure no one else here aspires to anything so important. We just sit and stare at a screen day and night. How fortunate I am to have you drop in from your essay writing long enough to piss me off, but not long enough to back up your words...

You find it. You make the accusation, you stand behind it.
Or be shown for a little coward, who goes about arbitrarily accusing people of things without merit.

I had a discussion about patriotism. Didn't become angry with anyone who didn't share my definition.

I think it worth noting that in the midst of a conversation between two women, craven's man meat makes and appearance, and the two women but pause and carry on with the conversation.

Oh, I for one felt an intruder! Clearly, Craven and Sofia should have a picnic. I felt it inappropriate to comment about luncheon meat clearly intended for another. Draw no false conclusions about substantiality from my tactful avoidance!
